After the Nigerian civil war in 1970, the then Gen. Yakubu Gowon military regime later came up with the education policy of government take over of mission schools in Nigeria. Thus, this made all the mission schools both at the primary and secondary levels to be under the suzerainty of the government. Although these schools continued to maintain their parent names despite this new policy.
When in 1981 the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe was created and with his Lordship, late Rt Rev Dr. Anthony Ilonu as the new Bishop; he thought it wise and pertinent that a mission school at that time was needed to cater for the training and discipline of growing children in the diocese, Okigwe Local Government Area, Its environs and beyond since the ones around had been taken over by the government.
However, in 1983 his Lordship sent Save Our Soul (SOS) message to then Rev Fr. Patrick Obike who was then a Parish Priest in Umuahia to come back for the establishment of Catholic Education in the dioceses. It took Fr. Patrick Obike now Monsignor Dr. Obike few months from January 1983 to put things together for the take off of the new Catholic school. Monsignor Obike was always going to Umuahia for Okigwe for this great assignment amongst which included the creation and designing of the school badge.
